What is the Youth Section?
The Section encourages and creates opportunities, programs and projects imbued with an awareness that young adults are animated, at heart, by what is needed in the future. We work from a view that does not culminate in an intellectual understanding, but strives to become living insight, creative idealism and courage for the future. This orientation is alive in the spiritual striving of every young person, an innate youth wisdom that transcends their hereditary and social conditions. The Youth Section draws life from anthroposophy’s spiritual orientation, but it has no program, no doctrine, but a sensitivity for the authentic interests and aspirations of individual young people around the world, and an effort to work with them and support them.
The aims of the Section include youth-organized and youth-led activities, intergenerational work, and offering an understanding that can support individuals who are working from the contemplative culture of Anthroposophy and young adults through events, research projects, and publications.
Our Commitments
The School for Spiritual Science is founded on contemplative practices that reveal more about the human being and the world than what's immediately visible.
That knowledge isn't meant to stay abstract but to come to life. It's meant to renew how we work, create, and live together. We think young people have a unique role in that renewal.
Team at the Goetheanum
The team at the Goetheanum supports the local and global work of the Youth Section by hosting and co-creating spaces, online and in person, where young people can meet. Co-workers cover a range of tasks between them, from running the house, to organising conferences and events, to managing the Section's international relations.
The Global Network
We're 20+ groups around the world, each shaped by the people and culture around it.
Every year, delegates from the Youth Section groups come together to share insights and expertise with one another. This happens at local and global levels to foster the spiritual search of youth and to offer spaces where young people from all backgrounds can meet, work together, and learn from one another.
The hub of it all sits at the Goetheanum, in Switzerland, and the work happens wherever our groups are.
Our method
- Spiritually striving young people committing to work together regularly and build relationships.
- Fostering a culture that values meeting, understanding one another, and an appreciation and joy in being together.
- Activities are organized and led by young people, not for them.
- Intergenerational, by choice. We build bridges with the wider anthroposophical community, not walls.
- Many forms. Events, artistic projects, research, camping expeditions, publications, media, whatever fits the question being asked.
