ISC 2024 Update 2

Exciting news on the International Students' Conference!

Dear friends from all around the world!

In this newsletter, we would like to give you an update on the International Students' Conference that will take place in four months already!

We're excited to share some words of one of our four main speakers: Brigid LeFevre.
In the coming newsletters, you will hear from the others as well.

Furthermore, the organizing team met at the Goetheanum in November. Whilst working intensively on the program, the theme as well as a creative project for the conference, we created a short video.

For those who need financial support for the contribution towards the conference, we have set up a form on the website, which is shared in this newsletter.

Last but not least: the registration for the conference has been opened!
That's why we want to ask you to help spread the word about the conference. We've created a postcard, as maybe not in all places a big poster finds space. You can request them through the website.

I grew up in a Camphill Community in Northern Ireland. I moved to England and then to Scotland where I studied Geography at Aberdeen University where I was active in the environmental and fairtrade society supplying local organic vegetables to other students. This sparked my interest in agriculture, sustainability and food systems. At the same time the vibrant music scene in the city inspired me to pick up the guitar and start writing songs. After completing my studies, I embarked on a six-month journey, playing gigs and street concerts which eventually led me to a beautiful garden in Järna, Sweden. I spent the next 15 years working in there with small scale agriculture and vegetable fermentation. In 2017, I co-founded a community supported garden cooperative for biodynamically grown, fermented vegetables. I have been engaged in several EU projects that focus on promoting school gardens, food fermentation for gardeners, and perennial vegetable production. I now find myself in Northern Portugal embarking upon a new project, getting to know a piece of forest and understanding our potential to support each other. Looking back it is easy to see a red line in the path that becomes a biography but in the moment it is a crossroads, a meeting, a moment of inspiration, or desperation, and a step into the unknown. I look forward to sharing some of my crossroads with you and some insights that have inspired me. Insights from people on the way, from food fermentation, from growing vegetables, from passing snails, from looking at flowers... the list goes on.

With a lot of thought and conversation and after a long process, we are happy to share the conference program with you.

We will have four wonderful contributors, as well as many workshops and an artistic project!

This also means that registrations for the International Students' Conference are open now!

Please note that if you are a minor, you will have to fill out the guardian consent form and upload it during the registration process.

Before registering, check whether you need a travel visa for Switzerland.

A personal introduction to the conference from the organising team

On a weekend in late November, the team for the International Students' Conference met in Dornach at the Goetheanum to start the major planning phase of our upcoming conference. We began our time together with an in-depth reflection on the theme of the conference and its personal meaning for each of us. After this we shot a short video that not only highlights the centerpiece of our conference (the theme) but also allows you to get to know a few faces of the team behind this conference.

We also started planning the program and the schedule more precisely and deeply. Our goal is to offer a balanced mix of informative input, whilst at the same time creating enough space for personal development and lively exchange.

Currently we are working on finalizing the last details of our program to ensure that the conference will be a varied and exciting experience for all participants.

Request financial support

Many students and teachers have reached out to us regarding the costs for the conference. We are happy to be able to share this now, so everyone can continue planning their trip as well as have a clearer goal for raising funds.

The financial contribution for the International Students' Conference 2024 will be 275 CHF. This covers food, accommodation, the conference program and commute to and from the places where we will sleep.
Travel to and from Dornach should be arranged independently.

We are aware that this is a substantial contribution we are asking from participants. The total costs for the conference per participant are twice as high, and the second half we aim to fundraise.

If you are able to fundraise more than you need, please consider contributing to our scholarship fund! This will help other students to be able to come to Dornach.

Share the poster and postcards

We’ve created posters and postcards to suit all possible spaces around the world

As we want to be conscious of the ecological footprint this event will have, we have decided not to send printed posters to all Waldorf schools worldwide in order to save paper and mailing.
