ISC24 Update

A special invitation to the International Students' Conference 2024 at the Goetheanum

Dear students, teachers, participants of previous ISC's, dear friends!

We warmly invite you all to the upcoming International Students' Conference from April 10 - 14, 2024 at the Goetheanum.

After a fully digital ISC was hosted in 2021, it has been since 2019 that the Youth Section at the Goetheanum has hosted so many young people at the Goetheanum Campus.

With this conference we want to invite 16 to 20 year-olds from all over the world to meet and live together for 5 days, to discuss some of the big questions of our time and to find a common impulse of the youth that may manifest itself here at the Goetheanum in Switzerland.

In March 2023 we had the first in-person team meeting for the ISC24 in Dornach. The theme of the conference crystalized itself throughout the weekend out of what was present in our lives and hearts: "Taking Heart - Finding our way together".

This theme should indicate the direction of the conference's content, not only to support you in finding your ways to our venue from everywhere, but also speak to the virtues of the heart, such as courage, love, trust, and hope, in our coming together.

We expect about 600 high school students, who may arrive with their school classes, in smaller groups from the same region or join the event individually.
And beyond participation, you can get involved in the conference: workshops will again be a part of the program! And we set a high value on offering a diverse, international and exciting program. Therefore we would be very glad if you take the initiative and inform us if you can imagine to offer a workshop! More details you can find in this newsletter.

The experiences from previous ISC's since their launch in 2015, have taught us that the participants and all meaningful encounters will represent the heart of the meeting. The great diversity of places and journey's that each participant brings with them will make the ISC an unforgettable event for each and everyone of us.

About the theme

We wish to inspire courage in young students to work together and face the future with the strength that comes from a diverse and collaborative group. When we openly learn from each other, we see where we can combine our attributes to fill in for another, and by doing so can discover new ways to go about the issues our world is facing, ways we wouldn’t be able to find each on our own. As a bundle of arrows is unsnappable whereas a single arrow is weak, so much stronger are we as a team compared to separate individuals. But in order to find our way together, it is required of each member to find independently in themselves the will force to start tackling the immense struggles of our globe. We want to transform each patio, field, and hall into a forum of excited and passionate faces and lively voices! Guest speakers will give inspiration and share their wisdom in lectures. Workshops will provide the space for reflection and exploration so that the new inspiration will get the opportunity to take form. In between, games will be played, songs will be sung, and art will be performed and experienced, so that we will become not just a group of students, but a group of friends. Our goal is to provide a space where connections can be made across countries and even continents so that through all those different lenses through which the world is perceived, a new clarity can be discovered.

Host a workshop at the ISC24!

To gather input for the conference from the Youth Sections’ network as well as participants of previous ISC’s, we have created a form to express interest in hosting a workshop. Please fill this out before November 22nd 2023.

The main intention for the workshops is that they will provide a space for the students to be creative in every possible way. We are hoping to find workshops full of movement, art and creation. Workshops are meant as creative space, preferably lead by young people, where a free atmosphere that every participant can engage in is cultivated, whether it be a discussion or action. Getting to know other students and their culture should also be focus of every workshop! Even if you are not sure yet how or with what you want to contribute, feel free to leave some of the questions open! We will be in touch with you shortly about the details (eg. what timeslots and how many days with workshops there will be) as well as how your contribution can fit in the conference program.

We can cover your conference ticket and, if needed, arrange accommodation. You can request travel support too. However, if you are able to cover your travel to Dornach, that would be wonderful! In that way we can support others who otherwise might not be able to come.

Please note that due to internal processes in the Goetheanum regarding the planning of the conference, we can only include workshops shared with us before November 22nd. So please get in touch with us soon! We are excited to hear from you.

Financial contribution

Many students and teachers have reached out to us regarding the costs for the conference. We are happy to be able to share this now, so everyone can continue planning their trip as well as have a clearer goal for raising funds.

The financial contribution for the International Students' Conference 2024 will be 275 CHF. This covers food, accommodation, the conference program and commute to and from the places where we will sleep.
Travel to and from Dornach should be arranged independently.

We are aware that this is a substantial contribution we are asking from participants. The total costs for the conference per participant are double this amount, the other half we aim to fundraise.

If you are able to fundraise more than you need, please consider contributing to our scholarship fund! This will help other students to be able to come to Dornach.

As we want to be conscious of the ecological footprint this event will have, we have decided that we will not send printed posters to all Waldorf schools worldwide, to save paper and mailing.
